Branding takes time. To better understand branding, think of it as your reputation.
Who do people know you to be? What do people expect from you? What can people count on you for?
If you don’t like the answer to these questions, know this, you are the only one who can change it.
Our reputations as leaders comes from the messages we send, and we are always sending a message. The actions we take, the words we use, our facial expressions, how we handle failure, how we handle success… all of this sends a message.
Managing this can sound exhausting on top of a never-ending to do list. The easy way to do this is to get really honest with yourself.
What are your values? What is your vision for yourself? Who do you want to be?
After you have gained clarity around your values, your vision and who you are committed to being, then you commit to taking consistent action inside of your values. Consistent is the key word.
Consider these three actions to take:
- Taking a course in mindfulness will support you by increasing your self-awareness. Training yourself to notice what is going on not only outside of you but more importantly what is going on with you internally.
- Getting yourself a leadership coach is an invaluable partnership for any leader. Coaches give you a different perspective, they challenge your beliefs, and they are committed to you becoming the best human being you allow yourself to be.
- Studying communication, body language, and most importantly, yourself.
Your reputation is your brand.
